Summer Camp: Register in-person at Palos Heights Recreation Center
Before/After Care
Offered as a service to parents whose children are registered for one of Camp programs and need care either before or after regular camp hours. Children will participate in loosely structured activities under the watchful eye of camp staff. Options listed below are for families needing care every day or just a few times during the session.
Time
- Before Care: 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.
- After Care: 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Kiddie Camp:
Under the gentle guidance of experienced counselors, campers will have an exciting summer in Kiddie Kamp! Campers will have a blast making new friends while enjoying stimulating activities in a supportive atmosphere. Each day (rain or shine), campers will share lots of giggles and grins, creating and using their imagination through the use of:
- Crafts
- Games
- Songs
- Stories
- A Variety of Indoor and Outdoor Activities

Summer Camp:
You probably remember the anticipation of attending summer camp - the excitement of making new friends, the thrill of jumping into a swimming pool on a hot summer day or learning new games or crafts. Now it's time for your child to experience the magic of summer camp! Let our experienced and engaging staff lead your camper through an amazing summer with small groups and great indoor and outdoor activities.
We will have different themes each week, go to the pool, and go on exciting field trips! Campers will have a memorable summer in a safe and bully-free environment.

Goal
Our goal is to provide a safe environment and positive experience for your child this summer. This camp is designed for pre-teens who are looking for new and exciting things to do this summer. Camper should enjoy the outdoors and work well with others. Teen camp is for 6th to 8th graders.

Summer Camp Counselors
The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising children and participating in the organization, development, and direction of a well-rounded summer day camp program. The Summer Camp Counselor is a seasonal, part-time position in which the total amount of hours required is based on the total amount of campers registered to participate in each camp program offered by the Department and each camp’s time frame. A ratio of 1 counselor per every 6 youth ages 3 to 5 years and 1 counselor per every 8 youth ages 6 to 8 and 1 counselor for every 10 campers for ages 9-12 years is the determining guideline. Hours are not to exceed 40 hours per week. Palos Heights Parks and Recreation Department is an equal opportunity employer.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- 18 years old (Can be hired if 16 or 17, if candidate is exemplary.)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment.
- Experience with children in an organized setting preferred.
- Must be a creative and enthusiastic individual.
- Ability to relate well with and be able to lead children in a variety of activities.
- Ability to work within a team structure.
